One of the developing series is called
the Hurricane Chasers. These are hanging sculptures designed or narrow
spaces which no other art works could fit. In residences, there are always
places by front doorways, alongside fireplaces and in stairwells where
hanging sculptures work. The name comes from the belief that these sculptures
ward off hurricane force winds. Maybe true, stranger things have happened.
They are composed of a natural stone wrapped in heat-formed steel reinforcing
rod.

A series of these stones and twisted steel
reinforcing rod are hooked together to form a STONE CHAIN Hurricane Chaser
hanging sculpture. I have found it necessary to make them modular to facilitate
installation and transport. S-hooks join the separate elements.
These pieces are fun to build because it
is always a challenge to capture natural stones and each component is different.
Since there is some variety, they are interesting to fabricate. There is
not a straight rod in any of the components. The 'flowers' are plasma cut
steel circular saw blades.
