Laguna Beach Festival of Arts Display 2004
After considerable effort all year long, I
managed to get my display up in time for the opening of the 2004
season of the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts. This is a long running
exhibit of which I have been a participant for 14 years. Please see
images of my current display. Below is the hanging, fabricated-steel
sculpture called 'Tribal Earth Mother'. This is an articulated piece
that has acoustical properties. When the wind blows the metal rods tap
against the crenulated disk.

The
north side of the same wall contains a single 30" diameter
hammer-formed copper Philodendron leaf. This wall sculpture is
relatively light weight and hangs from a bracket. The patination is a
greenish brown. The wall sculpture on the right is called 'Tropical
Garden'. It has some utilitarian possibilities with the hook-like
tendrils on the bottom of the sculpture. There are 9 patinated copper
Philodendron leaves upon a 3/8" reinforcing steel branching frame. A
natural red vesicular basalt sone is the central focal point.

Close-up of 'Tropical Garden' illustrates the textures in the steel an stone.
Additionally, I have installed a
10' height tower structure which holds 3 independent sculptures. I
believe that people have unique architectural niches where long-thin
hanging pieces are perfect. Although these pieces contain stone and
steel, they are relatively light weight, often weighing less than 100
lb. Please see close-ups of the 'Pagoda Light' on the right.

More will be added to this page later as it is early in the run of the two month long show.
